Fronted by Venezuelan-American Valentine Lowry-Ortega (they/them/theirs), Oceanographer shines with influences of Laurel Canyon, Midwest emo, 90s Dream Pop, and Shoegaze. Their songs are lyric-forward, detailing the queer experience of romance, loss, and trauma in small towns. Oceanographer believes in anti-capitalist practice, particularly uplifting the DIY scene, and dismantling white supremacy and patriarchy in the arts.
