The Aster Cafe 125 S.E Main Street, MinneapolisSince forming in 2006, The High 48s have been making music that combines the soulful sound of classic bluegrass with a modern attitude, original songs and a wide range of influences far beyond Bill Monroe, the Stanley Brothers, and Flatt and Scruggs. In a genre created and dominated by artists from the South, The High 48s were born and raised in the Upper Midwest. And in a music scene where playing standards is the norm, The High 48s are a band of songwriters who perform their own material in addition to the “festival favorites.”Music 11am - 1pm

Dear Doris: Remembering Doris Day with Maud Hixson and Rick Carlson
Dunsmore Jazz Room 6161 Hwy 65 NE, MinneapolisDinner and drinks service starts 1 hour before showtimes. An Evening of Swinging Jazz and Movie MusicCelebrating Doris Day, first a big-band singer, then a movie star, and in her third act, a trailblazing animal activist. Featuring “Sentimental Journey”, a hit with Les Brown, “It’s Magic” from her first movie, to “Que Sera, Sera” from her film with Alfred Hitchcock. Maud Hixson: VocalsRick Carlson: Piano Hailed as “gently virtuosic” (All About Jazz), Maud Hixson is a devoted exponent of great songs, ranging from the classic Great American Songbook to the often unsung or forgotten compositions awaiting rediscovery. Based in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Maud made her Guthrie Theater debut in the Noel Coward revue Coward’s Women, also appearing in Park Square Theater’s The Soul of Gershwin. She teamed with Sir Richard Rodney Bennett in 2012 for the long-running Midtown Jazz at Midday concert series at Saint Peter’s and debuted her show Skyscraper Wits in London and New York in 2015. She has made three appearances at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Hall for the New York Cabaret Convention, presented by the Mabel Mercer Foundation. Her newest recording is devoted to the music of her mentor, Sir Richard Rodney Bennett, which earned a 2024 Bistro Award. “Her vocal style is so warm, intimate and compelling–it’s clear that she cares about the words and telling the story, with clarity and without artifice–practically a lost art these days.” –Michael Feinstein www.maudhixson.com
