For this show, we are highlighting the issues that are so important to ALL women in this election with an evening full of powerful music and stories that will move us, motivate us and get us to the polls! Creator, host Sue Scott is a veteran actor, who for 24 years was the female cast member on the public radio show A Prairie Home Companion. Since 2019, Sue has been thoroughly immersed in producing Island of Discarded Women live show & podcast. Special guest Mary Beth Yarrow is a producer of social and political documentary films and television. Originally from Willmar, Minnesota, she began her producing career in 1980 with the documentary, ” The Willmar 8,” directed by her lifelong collaborator, Lee Grant. This is the story of eight women tellers who walked off their jobs at The Citizens National Bank in Willmar, creating the first bank strike in American history. Mary Beth has created a series of television productions for HBO, NBC, CBS, and Lifetime Channel and is currently finishing a documentary about her uncle: “Gene McCarthy: Alone in the Land of the Aardvarks.” Rachel Kurtz has a magnetic stage presence. With her powerhouse voice, Rachel has found acclaim and a national audience with her appearances at community service events held in sports arenas raising awareness for world hunger, hurricane relief, and multi-cultural reconciliation. Jaspar Lepak writes songs from the heart with a remarkable gift for melody and poetry that underscores her feminist advocacy and activism.She sings with an emotional depth with a focus on themes of choice, parenthood, and more! Kennadi Hurst discovered her call to music and the arts at a very early age. Sharing stages with her family, her church, and behind renown artists, Kennadi has become an incredibly versatile performer with a searing voice that must be heard!
