Pistol Whippin’ Party Penguins
with Brotherhood of Birds, Feeding Leroy
—-
Straight from the great Mill City comes the Pistol Whippin Party Penguins. Don’t let the name fool you! This is not a violent group of flightless aquatic birds looking for a party, but rather 6 self proclaimed gentlemen, 2 guitars, a mandolin, a bucket of fiddles, bass, wheatstick drums, and a 4 part vocal harmony that will make a grown man cry. As they celebrate the release of a couple new singles, “Terrified” and “Lone Wolf Blues“, this group from Minneapolis strives to maintain the original spirit of traditional American music while continuing to play new original music and creative cover songs. The combination of folk, rock, blues, bluegrass, and the occasional stage banter will create an experience that anyone can enjoy!
Feeding Leroy began as a duo, when Lee Martin and Sonja Bjordal started performing together in Park City, UT. They had a weekly gig through out one fateful summer and decided they had found what they were meant to do. The two took their show back home to Duluth, MN, on the shores of Lake Superior where they have been performing regularly ever since. They took on a few more band members, recorded an album, had a couple name changes, but it has all led them to become… Feeding Leroy, living a simple life, playing tunes around the country and finding inspiration along the way. They have also recently taken to the open road, bringing this up north sound to new cities across the nation. It’s country music at its core, it’s fun, its original, it’s Feeding Leroy.
Brotherhood of Birds (BoB) is a Twin Cities-based, Minnesota progressive acoustic string band whose original compositions bring together traditional and modern styles. After hatching in 2021, the group has been recording and making a splash on regional venues and festivals. Their tag team style lineup makes every show unique while showcasing some of the premier players in the genre that that Twin Cities has to offer.
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
