SUMMARY:Corcovado at Midnight – An Astrud and Joao Gilberto Tribute
DESCRIPTION:Doors open at 5:30 PM for Dinner and Drink Service.\n\n\nBrazilian\, Bossa Nova\, Soft\, Intimate\, Romantic\nEliza Wheaton graces the stage with an elegant tribute to the timeless Astrud and João Gilberto\, the mother and father of bossa nova. Singing classics such as “The Girl from Ipanema\,” “Água de Beber\,” and “Corcovado\,” Eliza transports audiences to a small room in Rio de Janeiro with its window open as the rhythms of Brazil and the ocean drift softly inside. This memorable performance celebrates not only the birth and revolution of bossa nova\, but also the feeling of saudade—that uniquely Brazilian sense of longing. It invites listeners to slow down\, lean in\, and experience the romance\, restraint\, and quiet emotion that define the genre. \nEliza Wheaton: VocalsJulia Wheaton: Backing vocalsLukaz Wheaton: KeysDaniel Wahlstrom: DrumsMichael Mooridian: BassCollin Johnson: Guitar \nEliza Wheaton is a Brazilian-American singer and Sony-published songwriter from Minnesota\, best known as a key member of the indie-pop trio Bloodline and for her collaborations with her sister Julia Wheaton. She has performed at some of the region’s most iconic venues\, including First Avenue\, 7th Street\, and Berlin. With a sultry voice and a passion for Brazilian music\, Eliza draws listeners into the tender\, timeless world of bossa nova\, where every note feels personal. \nwww.instagram.com/elizawheaton23

He is known for his presence on YouTube playing bass guitar and being one of the last people to work with Prince. He is notable for his participation on the 2020 Nas album King’s Disease\, for which he won a Grammy. Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers has referred to Mono as “The greatest… electric bass player”. Fender released the MonoNeon Collection\, which included the MonoNeon Jazz Bass VSignature\, in 2022. \nMonoNeon was the last bassist hired by Prince. SUMMARY:Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society: Agatha Christie in America
DESCRIPTION:Doors open for Dinner and Cocktail Service at 6:00 PM.\n\n\nLive Mystery Radio Play\nJoin The Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society for an Agatha Christie double feature! The Society presents two audio plays by the grand dame of mystery\, performed in the style of an old-time radio broadcast\, complete with vintage commercials and live sound effects. It’s an “entertaining and creepy homage to an era gone by” (Cherry and Spoon)\, brought to life by veteran Twin Cities performers Shanan Custer\, Joshua English Scrimshaw\, Tim Uren\, and Eric Webster\, “using their voices to paint a picture so vivid that if you close your eyes\, you can see the action in your mind’s eye” (Stages of Minnesota). “The Careless Victim” from Hercule Poirot (1945): Poirot arrives in New York in search of an apartment and finds a corpse instead! The debut episode of American radio’s first and only attempt to turn Christie’s beloved Belgian sleuth into the hero of his own weekly series. “The Shadow on the Glass” from The Mysterious Mr. Quin (premiere): A dinner party\, a haunted window\, and a double murder? All in a day’s work for Mr. Satterthwaite and his curiously-named friend\, Harley Quin. The Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society imagines an alternate 1945 in which the success of the Hercule Poirot radio series led to another American Agatha Christie adaptation: The Mysterious Mr. Quin. \nFeaturing Shanan Custer\, Joshua English Scrimshaw\, Tim Uren\, and Eric Webster \nThe Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society performed their first staged old-time radio recreation in 2016 at the Bryant-Lake Bowl Theater in Minneapolis. Since then\, they have appeared at the Minnesota Fringe Festival\, Daleko Arts in New Prague\, the Wabasha Street Caves in Saint Paul\, and The Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson\, Wisconsin. Their recreations were also featured monthly from 2017 to 2019 at the James J. Hill Center and from 2020 to 2022 at Park Square Theater in Saint Paul. Currently\, the MORLS can be seen regularly at Crooners Supper Club in Minneapolis. \n“Shanan Custer\, Joshua English Scrimshaw\, Tim Uren\, and Eric Webster have this down cold — not just the technical aspect\, but the tone… Chilling as it might be to experience these tales (complete with old-school ads) alone in the dark\, it’s much more fun to experience them with a crowd.” -City Pages\nghoulishdelights.com

With influences ranging from Fats Domino and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band to Aretha Franklin and Tom Waits\, the band is converting audiences one show at a time\, from Vancouver to Miami and across Europe.\n \nMuch like the music\, the story spurns era\, expectation\, and classification. The often unbelievable\, sometimes harrowing\, and wholly inspiring journey of Davina Sowers gave birth to her eponymous band Davina and The Vagabonds in 2004. As the tale goes\, she grew up in the economically depressed Allegheny town of Altoona\, PA\, which she now describes as “awesome in the industrial era\, but horrible for high school.” She was adopted by her much older stepfather when he was in his 80s; he passed away when she was just 13. Through him and his Edison phonograph\, she first heard The Ink Spots\, Sidney Bechet\, Louis Armstrong and Louis Prima\, Sister Rosetta Tharpe\, and many others. “Great man. He was my angel and still is\,” she says.\n \nOn her own\, she vividly recalls hours in front of the record player where she religiously spun Led Zeppelin\, Black Sabbath\, and Simon and Garfunkel records belonging to her folk singer mom.\n \nTo this day\, Davina still refers to music as “my first and eternal love.” Despite early dalliances with classical piano and guitar\, she developed a heavy drug habit in high school\, which morphed into heroin dependency\, left her homeless\, sent her in and out of jail\, and brought on all manner of trouble. Kicking dope on the streets\, she “got clean\, started the band\, and worked [her] ass off every day since.”\n \nDavina and the Vagabonds shine every time they play. To date\, they’ve performed in forty-five states\, twelve European countries\, and two Canadian provinces. Not to mention\, they’ve earned feverish acclaim from the Chicago Tribune\, NPR\, and more in addition to performing on BBC’s international favorite late-night program Later… With Jools Holland and appearing on PBS’s Bluegrass Underground.\n \n“Davina and the Vagabonds combat heartache with sugar and sass.”  DOWNBEAT MAGAZINE \n\n\n \n\nThank you to our sponsors\, partners\, & neighbors: \n\n\nSummit Brewing • RKR Ganja Beverages  • Tito’s Handmade Vodka • Jameson Irish Whiskey  • High Noon • Lucky One Lemonade • Nobool Presents • The Zen Arcade  • Longfellow Rising • Lake Street Council • KFAI 90.3FM • Firehouse Perfroming Arts Center • Moon Palace Books • Arbeiter Brewing   \n\nThe Award-Winning* Under the Canopy series at The Hook & Ladder Theater returns with its uniquely seasonal urban footprint to the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis in 2025.\n \nThe Hook has committed to having a food truck Under the Canopy throughout the 2026 season for our guests. Come hungry and enjoy dinner with the show!
