SUMMARY:Cal Pflum
DESCRIPTION:At just 17 years old\, Cal Pflum is already proving that the soul of Americana doesn’t belong to a specific generation—it belongs to anyone with a story to tell. Armed with only an acoustic guitar and a voice that carries the resonance of the greats who came before him\, Cal is carving out a space in the modern country landscape with a sound that is as raw as it is refined. \nBorn and raised with the sounds of legends like Zach Bryan\, Tyler Childers\, Chris Stapleton\, Morgan Wallen and Johnny Cash echoing in the background\, Cal’s music bridges the gap between classic storytelling and contemporary grit. His acoustic arrangements strip away the noise\, leaving behind honest lyrics and melodies that evoke the wide-open spaces of the American heartland. \nWhether he is performing intimate local sets or preparing for larger stages in 2026\, Cal brings a maturity to his craft that belies his age. His performances are more than just songs; they are a journey through themes of heritage\, resilience\, and the quiet moments of everyday life. As he enters a pivotal year in his musical journey\, Cal Pflum is not just a rising name in the Americana scene—he is a reminder that the most powerful music often comes from the simplest beginnings.

SUMMARY:Cléa Galhano and René Izquierdo in Concert
DESCRIPTION:Experience Cléa Galhano & René Izquierdo live – a rare opportunity for world-class music in a welcoming\, free concert.\n\n\nConcerts by the Creek looks forward to welcoming you to Latin Reverie\, an afternoon of vivid color\, expressive artistry\, and captivating sound. \nInternationally renowned Brazilian recorder player Cléa Galhano joins virtuoso guitarist René Izquierdo for a dynamic program celebrating the rich musical traditions of Brazil\, Cuba\, Spain\, and Argentina. Together\, they explore the rhythms\, lyricism\, and soulful spirit that define each culture – offering music that is both energizing and deeply moving. \nThis concert is presented free of charge through the generous support of the Matson Music Fund. While admission is free\, reserved tickets are required. \nFollowing the performance\, all are warmly invited to stay for an informal reception and the opportunity to meet the artists. \n\n\nA BOUT CONCERTS BY THE CREEK \nThe Concerts by the Creek music series exists to offer music lovers from the Twin Cities community a welcoming environment with world-class musical performances across a wide range of genres. This series is presented by St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church to share the gift of live music and make it accessible to all those who seek the shared and moving connection that music brings. \nConcerts may be followed by an informal reception providing a unique opportunity to meet and engage with the musicians. We have a fantastic concert series lineup for the 2023 season! We hope you’ll join us for amazing music in a beautiful space. \nAll are welcome to attend these concerts. You do not need to be affiliated with St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in anyway. \n\n\nHISTORIC ST. STEPHEN’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH \nThese events will take place in historic St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. This beautiful building was built in 1937 when the new Country Club District was forming. As the first protestant church in Edina\, St. Stephen’s was and remains a true community church nestled into the surrounding neighborhood on the banks of Minnehaha Creek. \nSigns will be posted directing you to the event location. View GPS navigation through Google Maps. \nPARKING \nSt. Stephen’s does not have an onsite parking lot. Parking is available in the public lots connected to Utley and Wooddale Parks just West of the church. Street parking is also available. This means you may have to park a short distance away from the church and walk. We strongly encourage carpooling\, use of ride services such as Uber/Taxi\, and taking public transportation. \nThere is a bus stop directly opposite the church entrance. Bike parking is also available onsite. \nACCESSIBILITY \nDue to the historic nature of the building\, the church has some limited accessibility accommodations. We apologize for these inconveniences. While we strive to be welcoming to all\, there are limitations within this historic space. If you have any questions about accommodations or accessibility needs\, contact concertsbythecreek@ststephens.com or call 952-920-0595. \nHere are a few details to know: \nA limited number of handicap-accessible parking spots will be available near the entrance of the church on Wooddale Avenue. \nThere is an accessible entrance to the church on Wooddale Avenue. \nAll seating is in fixed pews – there are spaces reserved for wheelchairs but they are limited. Please contact the event organizer at concertsbythecreek@ststephens.com to see if there are wheelchair-accessible spaces available. \nA handicapped-accessible restroom is available. \nCANCELLATIONS \nShould an unavoidable circumstance arise requiring the cancellation of a concert\, all attendees holding reserved tickets will be notified via email and we will update the event page on our website and social channels. We will also contact those holding reserved tickets with rescheduled concerts dates as appropriate.

Finding herself singing mostly R&B and Funk because of her musician parents’ influence\, Gospel in her church choir\, and Jazz after starting in high school and studying jazz vocalists such as Sarah Vaughan\, Aja throws a bit of all her musical influences into each of her performances and guarantees a good time everytime. After graduating from the U of MN with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance\, Aja went on to perform with the Minnesota Opera\, Skylark Opera\, Penumbra Theatre and the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts. After a time\, Aja rekindled her love of Jazz\, R&B\, Funk and Motown\, and started performing as a freelance vocalist throughout the Twin Cities. In addition to being an entertainer\, she is also a mom to a 10 year old that also sings and does performances with her. \nAsa Parham\, only 10 years old\, has been immersed in music since birth! It’s only natural that he would want to perform and loves the stage! Since the age of 8\, Asa has performed with the The Capri Big Band\, and does Jazz with his mom. In addition to singing\, Asa plays the piano at Walker West Music Academy\, is a Schubert Club Musical Promise Scholarship recipient and loves to do Karaoke whenever he can! SUMMARY:Piss with Style w. Ben Vogel & JWAC
DESCRIPTION:If CBGB\, noise rock\, and the garage revival had a 3 way\, their unholy love child would be donned Piss with Style.   With loud\, funky and emotionally charged songs\, their influences span decades of rock n’ roll royalty\, all while poetically creating gritty personal narratives\, and grappling with both existential dread and urban decay.   The Twin Cities have resurrected Piss with Style to the fear and pleasure of everyone in their wake. \n30 chords and a cloud of dust – \nSpecializing in tightly-constructed pop songs about the messiness of life\, Ben Vogel lets loose with his intricate guitar-playing and distinctly vibrant voice. \nSince he abandoned academia for the rock & roll life\, Vogel has cooked up a unique take on power pop with subtle accent flavors that range from prog-rock to R&B. Imagine a harder-rocking Crowded House that occasionally edges into Daryl Hall territory. \nDefiantly untethered to modern trends without being overtly retro\, he truly makes “pop music for people who hate pop music.” \nOriginally (and proudly) hailing from Spokane\, Ben is currently based in Minneapolis and is working on new material for 2026. \n  \n  JWAC is a three-piece rock band from Saint Paul\, Minnesota\, specializing in blending\n\nfunk and punk genres. Beginning as purely an acoustic band playing lengthy \nimprovisations\, they have grown into competent songwriters and instrumentalists\, \ncovering wide ground in a short span of songs. They are so excited to share their new \nmaterial\, covers and jam sessions with the world!
