SUMMARY:Phil Heywood
DESCRIPTION:Phil Heywood plays fingerstyle guitar with a bluesy swing and a bucketful of whatever it takes to turn an instrumental piece into an arresting lyrical narrative. His lucid playing encompasses the down-home rhythmic groove of a Mississippi John Hurt or Leadbelly\, and the sheer fluidity and melodic flair of such contemporaries as Leo Kottke. The internationally renowned Kottke\, in fact\, once handpicked Heywood to tour and perform duets with him. A soul-satisfying instrumentalist\, Phil draws listeners in with his voice as well\, singing in a warm\, plainspoken baritone that blends smoothly with his rock-solid guitar work. \nphilheywood.com

SUMMARY:Pat Metheny
DESCRIPTION:“That liquid\, crystalline tone; those airborne\, searching melodies.” – NPR\n  \nPat Metheny was born in Lee’s Summit\, MO on August 12\, 1954 into a musical family. He started on trumpet at the age of eight\, then switched to guitar at age twelve. By fifteen\, he worked regularly with the best jazz musicians in Kansas City\, receiving valuable on-the-bandstand experience. Then\, Metheny burst onto the international jazz scene in 1974. Over his three-year stint with vibraphone great Gary Burton\, the young player already displayed his soon-to-become trademarked playing style. Here\, he blended the loose and flexible articulation customarily reserved for horn players with an advanced rhythmic and harmonic sensibility. Moreover\, this way of playing and improvising was modern in conception but grounded deeply in the jazz tradition of melody\, swing\, and the blues. With his first album\, Bright Size Life (1975)\, he reinvented the traditional “jazz guitar” sound for a new generation.  \nMetheny’s versatility is nearly without peer on any instrument. He has performed with Steve Reich\, Ornette Coleman\, Herbie Hancock\, Jim Hall\, Milton Nascimento\, and David Bowie. Metheny’s body of work includes compositions for solo guitar\, small ensembles\, electric and acoustic instruments\, large orchestras\, and ballet pieces and even the robotic instruments of his Orchestrion project\, while always sidestepping the limits of any one genre.  \nPat Metheny has won twenty Grammy Awards spread out over a variety of different categories. Once\, he won seven consecutive Grammys for seven consecutive albums. In 2015 he was inducted into the DownBeat Hall of Fame\, becoming only the fourth guitarist to be included. In 2018 he was named an NEA Jazz Master\, the nation’s highest honor in jazz. \nRecommended for fans of Chick Corea\, Keith Jarrett\, Wes Montgomery and Bill Frisell. \nThese tickets do not qualify for the A-Train discount.

SUMMARY:Beth Bombara / Mother Banjo
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n rsvp on Facebook\n \n\n\n\n \nThe Zen Arcade Stage at The Hook and Ladder Event Center\n\n\nDoors 6:30pm :: Music 7:00pm :: 21+\n\n\n$17 ADV (Box-Office) / $20 ADV (Online) / $25 DOORLimited Seating Available on a First-Come\, First-Served Basis — Arrive Early\n\n\nBOX-OFFICE Tickets Are Available in The Zen Arcade During Hours of Operation. For More Information visit www.ZenArcadeTHC.comNO REFUNDS \n \n \n\n\n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n\n\n \nBeth Bombara / Mother Banjo—\nTwo powerful voices in modern folk and Americana share the stage for an intimate night in the Zen Arcade. Beth Bombara’s guitar-driven songs blend ’70s folk soul with ’90s indie rock spirit—honest\, melodic\, and quietly powerful. Minneapolis favorite Mother Banjo (Ellen Stanley) opens the night with poetic songwriting and a soulful mix of folk\, bluegrass\, and Americana.\n\n—– \n\nBeth Bombara lives at the intersection of 70’s folk soul and 90’s indie rock heart. Her guitar-driven songs blend emotional honesty with sparkling melodies\, creating something that feels both timeless and immediate. \nBut Bombara’s story is as much about perseverance as it is about sound. After working with different labels that eventually folded beneath her feet\, she kept writing\, kept recording\, kept moving forward with determination. She’s toured internationally\, and released self-produced albums garnering the attention of BBC radio\, American Songwriter Magazine\, Uncut Magazine and more. But in late 2025\, an accident left her with a broken wrist\, broken ribs\, and a few months of canceled shows. Unable to play guitar or sing without pain\, Bombara found herself stripped down to what matters most: the music itself\, the gratitude for each day\, the clarity that comes from loss. \nHer upcoming record reflects this evolution—sonically bolder\, lyrically more vulnerable\, produced with fresh perspective alongside her own refined instincts. It’s a natural expansion of everything she’s built across five critically acclaimed albums\, informed by grit\, grace\, and a renewed understanding that time is precious. \nShe’s not one to sit still for too long. And that’s exactly the point. \n————– \nFeaturing Ellen Stanley on banjo and vocals\, Mother Banjo is a New England-raised\, Minneapolis-based songwriter. Called “an outstanding poet” (Inside Bluegrass)\, she was a Midwest Finalist for the prestigious NewSong Contest. She has been featured nationally on SiriusXM Radio\, CMT.com\, The Bluegrass Situation and Americana UK and has shared the stage with such A-list songwriters as Dar Williams\, Charlie Parr and Jim Lauderdale. She and her award-winning band just released a special 10th Anniversary Vinyl Edition of the Mother Banjo Band’s best-selling gospel album The Devil Hasn’t Won\, featuring their unique brand of soulful folk\, bluegrass and Americana. \nWhether performing solo or with her full 5-piece band\, she is an engaging performer that brings a playful energy to the stage even when singing the saddest of songs. When not writing or recording her own music\, she is busy supporting other artists\, hosting the syndicated Womenfolk Radio Show and the Back Catalog Listening Party podcast.  \n\n—\n“traditional folk and bluegrass sounds with genuinely poetic lyrics\, landing somewhere between Gillian Welch and Lucy Kaplansky.”-Minneapolis Star Tribune

SUMMARY:Ana Popovic at Dakota
DESCRIPTION:“one helluva guitar player” – Bruce Springsteen\n  \nLos Angeles-based\, critically acclaimed guitarist and singer Ana Popovic released her latest album\, Dance To The Rhythm\, in 2025. Here\, the album showcases a groundbreaking fusion of groove\, blues\, funk\, and soul.  \nBuilding on the success of her previous work\, Dance To The Rhythm pushes boundaries. There\, she seamlessly blends infectious dance grooves with raw blues guitar and powerful lyrics. The album weaves a rich tapestry of musical styles\, reflecting Popovic’s masterful versatility.  \nAna says: “One of my biggest strengths on stage is my ability to make people dance. Music should take you to a place where you can let go\, feel the groove\, and move. You want music to grab you\, to have a pocket that you can’t resist. Everything else revolves around it. Blues guitar has never really been part of dance music before\, and in that way\, it’s revolutionary. Guitar plays a central role in these tracks\, breaking down the boundaries created by time\, culture\, and musical traditions. With this album\, I’m pushing those boundaries.” For Ana\, blues guitar is the foundation of everything in her music. Yet\, she masterfully blends genres\, effortlessly shifting from blues to dance\, jam band\, funk\, pop\, and even gospel. Thus\, it’s all part of her evolving sound.  \nA true pioneer\, Ana combines her blues guitar roots with bold experimentation\, redefining the intersection of blues and dance music. Her live performances are electrifying\, blending fierce guitar work with irresistible rhythms that compel audiences to move.  \nShe’s received seven Blues Music Awards nominations\, and her latest album\, 2023’s Power\, hit Number One on the Billboard Blues Chart. Additionally\, Ana has shared stages with legends like B.B. King\, Joe Bonamassa\, Warren Haynes\, Robert Plant\, and Gary Clark Jr. \nRecommended for fans of Joe Bonamassa\, Gary Clark Jr.\, Buddy Guy and Eric Gales.

SUMMARY:The New Standards (2nd Show Added!!)
DESCRIPTION:Doors open at 7:00 PM for Dinner and Drink service.\n\n\nMinnesota stalwarts The New Standards create an intriguing blend of everything from classic cabaret to punk rock\, from the freedom of jazz\, to the soul of pop and rock. They make it work through offbeat humor and sheer musicianship. The instrumentation is simple: John Munson of Trip Shakespeare/Semisonic fame on bass; Chan Poling\, founder of the new-wave group The Suburbs on piano; and Steve Roehm on vibes. Chan and John split the singing. A footstomp here\, a shout-out there\, a fiery solo\, and it’s cooked. Simple\, elegant\, illuminating. \nChan Poling: Piano\, Vocals \nJohn Munson: Bass\, Vocals \nSteve Roehm: Vibraphone \nThe New Standards is a “revelatory” (StarTribune) Twin-Cities-based trio with a global following. Formed in 2005 as an off-shoot project between three Minneapolis-based musicians and friends\, The New Standards has grown into a globe-spanning adventure — filling theaters and clubs and spawning several CDs\, videos\, cartoons\, and dance and theater projects that have charmed and delighted an ever-multiplying legion of faithful fans. \n“As a trio\, they have made a practice of dressing up punk and pop classics – “I Will Dare” by the Replacements gets a place in the pantheon – in jazz arrangements that overlay piano\, upright bass and vibraphone…The DNA of the band and its members has its feet firmly rooted into punk/pop culture.” – NY Times\nwww.thenewstandards.com

DESCRIPTION:VIP Meet & Greet Add-On. Click the links below for tickets!\nAPR 23\nAPR 24 \n\n  \n“fusion of classical\, hip-hop\, blues\, and R&B” – Glide\n  \nStep into Black Violin’s Full Circle Tour! Here\, Grammy-nominated duo Wil Baptiste and Kev Marcus redefine the possibilities of music by merging classical depth with hip-hop’s pulse. Also\, this tour captures the essence of returning to where it all began—transformed and reimagined. Each powerful performance invites audiences to reflect on their own journeys\, discovering that even as we evolve\, we’re often drawn back to our roots with renewed purpose.  \nFrom high school orchestra classmates to groundbreaking artists\, Black Violin’s path reflects resilience\, creativity\, and the courage to challenge expectations. Furthermore\, their Black Violin Foundation reaches over 100\,000 students each year\, building a legacy that transcends the stage. Join them for an unforgettable night that celebrates growth\, music\, and the beauty of coming full circle. \nThe members of Black Violin met on the first day of orchestra class in 1996. There\, they both attended Dillard High School of the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale. (Baptiste originally wanted to play saxophone in the band. However\, the orchestra teacher assigned him to his class after winning a golf bet with the band instructor.) Classically trained by day\, they faithfully put on their headphones and listened to the hottest rap records each night. Then\, after attending different colleges\, they reconvened\, moved into an apartment together\, and started trying to produce other musicians. \nThey developed an act covering hip-hop songs on their violins\, which became popular in local clubs. Two years after sending in a tape to Showtime at the Apollo\, the show invited to appear— which they won\, and kept winning. Since then\, they’ve worked with Alicia Keys\, Alessia Cara\, 2 Chainz\, Lil Wayne\, Mike Shinoda (Linkin Park)\, and more. \nRecommended for fans of 2Cellos\, Lindsey Stirling\, The String Queens and Damien Escobar.
