SUMMARY:Cameron Wright: Songs My Grandmother Loved
DESCRIPTION:“wowing audiences with their gorgeous vocals” – Advocate\n  \nCameron Wright is a genre-defying and defining singing machine. With a four-octave vocal range and church roots\, they’ve been categorized in a lane of their own. Moreover\, they draw inspiration from an amalgam of artists like Queen\, Whitney Houston\, and The Clark Sisters. Thus\, Cameron’s music is a fusion of R&B\, rock\, and gospel. Here\, it’s an immersive\, atmospheric sound that has given rise to the genre they’ve pioneered: psychedelic R&B. \nMost recently\, they have been featured in Mary J. Blige’s Las Vegas residency. Also\, they toured North America as a background vocalist for Kelly Rowland. Additionally\, Cameron lent their voice to major releases by The Zac Brown Band and Daniel Caesar. \nRecommended for fans of Stevie Wonder\, Leela James\, Musiq Soulchild and Bill Withers.

SUMMARY:Django Festival Allstars
DESCRIPTION:“Buoyant rhythm\, blinding technique\, solid entertainment!” – New York Times\n  \nDjango Reinhardt’s unmistakable cool and jumpin’ joie de vivre made him an icon for an unlikely range of luminaries. There\, guitar greats from Carlos Santana to Eric Clapton cite Django as an influence. Furthermore\, Jimi Hendrix named his Band of Gypsies in tribute\, and Willie Nelson adopted his influence in country-swing. \nThe Django Festival Allstars have grown into a brilliantly cohesive group of star musicians who’ve taken America by storm. Here\, they perform at top concert halls and festivals to standing ovations. \nThe music speaks of Paris in the 20s and 30s when “gitane” music filled the air. There\, it was in the cafés\, the streets\, in the countryside\, a romantic Paris with lovers\, campfires. Also\, a time of Montmartre\, la belle époque\, le Boudon café\, café au lait\, luscious pastry\, and a great glass of wine. Django was “king”. He teamed with jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli and made musical history. \nThe Django Festival Allstars bring this music to today… combining known standards and original music to intoxicating effect!! Now\, they swing like crazy and will break your heart with a ballad. \n“The highpoint of the entire weekend of the Playboy Festival at The Hollywood Bowl was The Django Festival Allstars” – LA Scene Magazine \n“Some of the greatest musicians in the world” – Leonardo DiCaprio \n“Sensational” – George Benson \nRecommended for fans of Django Reinhardt\, Sidney Bechet\, Paco de Lucia and Astor Piazzolla.

SUMMARY:Osenya W. Spectres of Desire\, Magenta Vice
DESCRIPTION:Osenya is a Minneapolis-based artist that creates colorful synthpop infused with art-pop experimentation. \nBlending lush vocal harmonies\, sparkling synthesizers\, and off-kilter arrangements\, their music lives in a space that's dreamy\,\n quirky\, playful and fun. \n\n\nSpectres of Desire is a solo electronic project from Minneapolis that explores the sonic margins of synthpop with a DIY punk \nspirit. The project seethes with despair yet offers listeners a beacon of earnestness in a world full of snake oil salesmen. \nThemes of loss\, abandonment\, yearning\, and reclamation of the self permeate the work. The live set presents music as a\n dialectic\, where a base of repurposed hardware colors and conditions the ephemeral superstructure of software synthesizers. \nSpectres of Desire offers a glimmer of hope amidst a collapsing world.\n\n\n\nApproaching synthwave as a band rather than as producers\, Magenta Vice focuses on live hardware performance\, \nworking without the use of DAW's. Heavily influenced by Italo disco\, electro\, and Hi NRG\, as well as 70's German\nkosmische musik\, Magenta Vice offers a wide range of moods\, blending sounds of past and present.

SUMMARY:Braxton Cook
DESCRIPTION:“Cook’s newest record… is another kaleidoscopic vignette” – Downbeat\n  \nWhen the vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Braxton Cook first started working on the album that would become 2025’s Not Everyone Can Go\, he was going through several transitions that he just couldn’t ignore. Last year\, Cook spent lots of time on the road — in Europe and Asia\, along with two United States tours. “I was just very busy\, and trying to juggle that with family\, it was a lot to manage\,” Cook said. Then\, in a moment of self-reflection\, he looked back on the past year\, noticed a theme emerging. Thus\, he came to this conclusion: It was OK to let go of things that weren’t serving him any longer. Transitions were natural as he stepped into fatherhood. “It was only pushing me more in that direction of understanding\,” he continued. “There’s grief that comes along with having to let certain things go to make time for the things I truly value.”  \nOne can hear Cook breaking through on Not Everyone Can Go. Here\, his signature mix of jazz and R&B feels indebted to similar hybrids of yesteryear. Musically\, the album conjures images of bright evening sunshine\, when the temperature begins to cool. Not quite Quiet Storm\, instead\, the album dabbles between the margins\, which won’t surprise Cook’s fans. He’s released acclaimed albums like Somewhere In Between\, No Doubt and Who Are You When No One Is Watching?. There\, he’s made a career of blurring the lines between genres\, landing on a sound that isn’t just one thing. Moreover\, while that’s made his music tough to pin down\, that also makes it all the more intriguing. Additionally\, the fact that you can’t label it just R&B or just jazz lends to the music’s attraction. \nRecommended for fans of Robert Glasper\, Hiatus Kaiyote\, Kamasi Washington and Thundercat. \n📸: Ricardo Nagaoka

SUMMARY:The Thirsty River
DESCRIPTION:The Thirsty River is a folk | bluegrass | Americana band from the Twin Cities who have been quietly gaining a following playing bars\, breweries\, events and festivals all around the upper midwest over the past 10+ years (but who’s counting). Their third studio album\, Junk Drawer\, was released this year and has been featured on curated playlists such as GemsOnVHS monthly playlist and Spotify’s editorial “New Grass” playlist. Junk Drawer is a collection of songs\, much like the items in our very own junk drawers\, that haven’t fit into any other projects but still serve a greater purpose.\n\nThis 5-piece encompasses intimate yet energetic performances with dynamic harmonies and inevitable onstage banter. Brothers Jake (Guitar) & Evan (Banjo) lead in vocals\, with third brother Ben (mandolin & fiddle)\, Dave (keys & washboard)\, and Mike (bass) filling in those harmonies that people apparently enjoy. The Thirsty River has an undeniable passion that is constantly pushing the limits of Americana music both you and your grandpa will enjoy.

SUMMARY:Davina and The Vagabonds
DESCRIPTION:“This music\, as retro as it may be at times\, feels fun\, frisky and alive.” – American Songwriter\nDavina Sowers and the Vagabonds have created a stir on the national music scene. Their high-energy live shows feature level-A musicianship\, sharp-dressed professionalism and Sowers’ commanding stage presence. Also\, their influences range from Fats Domino and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band to Aretha Franklin and Tom Waits. Moreover\, the band is converting audiences one show at a time\, from Vancouver to Miami and across Europe. \nMuch like the music\, the story spurns era\, expectation and classification. The often unbelievable\, sometimes harrowing\, and wholly inspiring journey of Davina Sowers gave birth to her eponymous band in 2004. As the tale goes\, she grew up in the economically depressed Allegheny town of Altoona\, PA. She now describes the town as “awesome in the industrial era\, but horrible for high school.” Then\, she was adopted by her stepfather when he was in his 80s; he passed when she was just 13. Through him and his Edison phonograph\, she first heard the music that would start her journey. For example\, The Ink Spots\, Sidney Bechet\, Louis Armstrong\, Louis Prima\, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and many others. “Great man. He was my angel and still is\,” she says. \nOn her own\, she vividly recalls hours in front of the record player at home. There\, she religiously spun Led Zeppelin\, Black Sabbath and Simon and Garfunkel records belonging to her folk singer mom. \nTo this day\, Davina still refers to music as “my first and eternal love.” Despite early dalliances with classical piano and guitar\, she developed a heavy drug habit in high school. Further\, this morphed into heroin dependency\, left her homeless\, sent her in and out of jail and brought on all manner of trouble. Kicking dope on the streets\, she “got clean\, started the band and worked [her] ass off every day since.” \nRecommended for fans of Pokey LaFarge\, Preservation Hall Jazz Band\, The Hot Sardines and Squirrel Nut Zippers.

Ward or the Clash then throw down hard on a standard by Bill Monroe. \nThe High 48s are also a band of songwriters. Here\, too\, they take a modern approach\, heeding the well-worn advice to writers: write what you know. Their songs ring true to their lives as northern city-folk rather than an imagined “sweet\, sunny south” of coal mines and dark hollers. \n \nMore about The OK Factor: \nPlayful and unexpected\, new-classical crossover duo The OK Factor writes and performs folk-inspired music influenced by multiple genres\, with an artistry that reveals their classical training. Cellist Olivia Diercks and violinist Karla Peters find great joy in defying expectations and delivering an experience outside of what audiences anticipate from a cello and violin combo. Organic and genuine\, their original compositions feel both comfortingly familiar and uniquely fresh\, and have been described as “genre-bending” (Julie Amacher\, MPR) and “pure magic” (Wausau Pilot & Review). \nThe ease with which they write and perform and their passion for educational outreach has caught the attention of the Minnesota music community in which they live and work\, as McKnight Fellowship finalists in 2026 and 2025\, recipients of a 2024 Minnesota State Arts Board Arts Education Grant\, and a 2020 Scandinavian Folk Arts and Cultural Traditions Fellowship through the American Scandinavian Foundation. Olivia and Karla invite audiences to explore music and cultivate a curiosity about its role in their lives.
