SUMMARY:SICARD HOLLOW with The Johnson Brothers
DESCRIPTION:Nashville’s psychedelic punk-grass rockers\, Sicard Hollow\, grew up sick of any existing institution telling them who and what to be.\n\n\nThe Cedar presents \nSICARD HOLLOW with The Johnson Brothers \nSaturday\, August 22\, 2026 \nDoors: 7:00 PM / Show: 8:00 PM \nAll Ages \nStanding \n \nThis is a standing room show. To request seating or other access accommodations\, please go to our Access Page. \n \nFor Cedar presented shows\, online ticket sales typically end one hour before the door time\, and then\, based on availability\, tickets will be available at the door. Tickets purchased at the door will include a $1 Eventbrite fee. \n\n\n\nABOUT THIS SHOW \nNashville’s psychedelic punk-grass rockers\, Sicard Hollow\, grew up sick of any existing institution telling them who and what to be. Now\, as they navigate adulthood\, they’re equally tired of the music institutions telling them what their music should sound like — so they dunked it in patchouli and a skate-and-destroy ethos that brings an enduring sound into the modern age. \n\n\n\n\nNashville’s psychedelic punk-grass rockers\, Sicard Hollow\, grew up sick of any existing institution telling them who and what to be. Now\, as they navigate adulthood\, they’re equally tired of the music institutions telling them what their music should sound like— so they dunked it in patchouli and a skate-and-destroy ethos that brings an enduring sound into the modern age. \nBefore the band met in 2018\, none of the members ever considered playing bluegrass. Matt Rennick (violin) was working on electronic music\, Will Herrin (mandolin/vocals) was playing guitar in rock bands\, and Alex King (guitar/vocals) was barely playing music at all. After a few jam sessions\, the bluegrass just kind of happened. Since adding Parrish Gabriel (bass) in the Fall of 2019\, the band has been on a journey of self discovery within the genre while challenging themselves to make it their own. \nWhether it was skateboarding or chasing jam bands\, singer/guitar-player Alex King always had a fierce desire to succeed on his own terms. He spent years as an artist without an art-form\, searching for a home by pouring every bit of his sweat and heart into anything he was doing. “It took years for me to land on music\,” King says\, referencing “This I Know” from the album\, “but when I found that fire inside my heart\, I found my home.” \nIt just so happened that finding that home coincided with the shutdown of live music due to the pandemic that canceled the entire release tour supporting their debut studio record\, ‘Secret of the Breeze.’ During that time\, the band turned inward to reflect on their identity and how they could add their generation’s voice to a timeless genre of music. \nThe result\, with the help of producer John Mailander (Billy Strings\, Bruce Hornsby) and Recording/mixing engineer Dan Davis (Billy Strings\, Zac Brown Band\, Dierks Bentley)\, was a combination of pop-punk melodies\, psychedelic instrumental breaks\, and existential song-writing all packaged as a bluegrass quartet dressed in tattoos and tie-dyes. \nAfter six years of tearing up festival stages around the country like Peach Festival\, Summer Camp\, CaveFest at the Caverns\, WinterWonderGrass\, Blue Ox\, and Hillberry\, as well as gassing up sold-out crowds supporting artists like the Infamous Stringdusters\, Leftover Salmon\, Eggy\, Sam Bush\, Kitchen Dwellers\, Dogs in a Pile\, Dopapod\, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong\, and Yonder Mountain String Band\, Sicard Hollow has a full tank and a whole lot guts as they hit the road in 2025. \nLearn more about Sicard Hollow here. \n\n\n\nFeaturing some of the Midwest’s finest bluegrass musicians—including founding members of Kind Country—The Johnson Brothers blend deep-rooted tradition with adventurous improvisation. Drawing inspiration from bluegrass legends like Tony Rice and Norman Blake while embracing the free-spirited energy of Yonder Mountain String Band The Big Wu and Grateful Dead the band delivers a fresh take on American roots music. \nWith nearly a decade of performing together on stages across the country The Johnson Brothers have developed a sound that honors the traditions of bluegrass while pushing the music forward through dynamic interplay tasteful improvisation and high-energy live performances. Whether it’s a driving fiddle tune a timeless ballad or an extended jam their music is rooted in authenticity and fueled by a shared love of the American string band tradition. \nLearn more about The Johnson Brothers here.

SUMMARY:The Belfast Cowboys at Dakota
DESCRIPTION:“conjures up the spirit and the songs of Ireland’s greatest export” – Chicago Tribune\n  \nThe Belfast Cowboys is a nine-piece\, horn-driven band from Minneapolis that specializes in the music of Van Morrison. Entering their third decade\, they are adept at mixing rock\, blues\, roots and soul sounds. Led by veteran songwriter/guitarist Terry Walsh\, the Cowboys have flourished in the renowned Minnesota music scene. They have consistently packed houses and wowed crowds since 2002. \nTerry Walsh got his start playing in various Twin Cities rock bands. He toured as Slim Dunlap’s bass player in 1997\, opening for Son Volt. In 2001 Terry hit upon the idea of forming a Van Morrison tribute band. Terry spent the rest of the year learning Van songs and building an all-star band. The band played their first show at the old 400 Bar on Saint Patrick’s Day 2002. \nMany musicians have played with the band\, but the ‘A’ team was soon established. It includes Dan Kowalke (guitar\, vocals\, Joe Baumgart (bass)\, Dave Kirby and Dave Haugen (drums\, backing vocals)\, Joe Loskota (keyboards\, backing vocals). The horn section includes Paul Gronert (sax)\, Matt Hanzelka (trombone)\, Tim Martin (trumpet)\, Vic Volare (sax\, flute). Bandleader Terry Walsh (lead vocals\, guitar\, harmonica\, piano). \nThe band has expanded its content over the years to include rock and soul covers. Terry’s own originals have become fan favorites. Now a beloved staple in Minnesota\, the 9-piece Belfast Cowboys averaged over 120 shows a year before the pandemic. The bar-tested troubadours are known for playing epic sets at their weekly Minneapolis gigs and drawing crowds to outdoor festivals. Occasionally they’ll venture beyond the Midwest to play Ireland\, Phoenix\, and New York’s Times Square. Once they opened for the band Chicago in front of 15\,000 people. \nRecommended for fans of Bruce Springsteen\, G.B. Leighton\, Tina and the B-Sides and Van Morrison.

SUMMARY:The Pianist Knows Best 2: Jearlyn Steele & Fred Steele
DESCRIPTION:Doors open at 4:30 PM for Dinner and Drink Service.\n\n\nA Soulful Celebration to Life\nSingers are often accompanied by a pianist who may sometimes dread the inevitable set list of songs he may tire of playing. But what if we flip the script and give the pianist the power to decide her fate; what will he have her sing and when will he have her sing it. Yes\, she can and will protest but to no avail. Come laugh and sing along to whatever songs he chooses; no rehearsals\, just songs they have performed together over the decades. This show promises to deliver and uplift. The pianist will challenge and support Jearlyn through the labyrinth. Don’t miss this show! \nJearlyn Steele: Vocals \nFred Steele: Piano \nJearlyn is a member of the internationally acclaimed family\, The Steeles\, who have performed from Carnegie Hall to Brazil and to the Super Bowl Live Verizon stage in 2018. For more than a decade\, she has been the Entertainment Reporter for Twin Cities Public Television’s award-winning political show Almanac interviewing local\, national and international acts. As a keynote speaker\, facilitator and emcee\, Jearlyn has inspired audiences around the country and the Caribbean. Maintaining her four-hour Sunday night radio show called Steele Talkn’ on WCCO Radio 830AM\, has been a joy for two decades. Developing and delivering her TedX Talk in 2016 offered a revisit of her Personal Value Statement\, which has emboldened her as a woman\, mother\, entertainer and student. \nMusically\, she has performed with the Minnesota Orchestra\, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra\, Prince\, Mavis Staples and more. She was a frequent special guest on the national radio broadcast A Prairie Home Companion performing duets with music greats Carole King and Elvis Costello. Her vocal talents landed her a feature in the Robert Altman film\, A Prairie Home Companion starring Meryl Streep\, Lily Tomlin\, Woody Harrelson\, Tommy Lee Jones and Garrison Keillor. \nFred Steele is a MN Hall of Famer with his iconic family The Steeles\, and has worked with Prince\, George Clinton\, Mavis Staples\, and a lot more. He’s performed on Broadway in NY\, Carneghie Hall\, The Guthrie\, and most major theatres across the US and a lot of Europe. He is also recognized as an Educator and spreads the good news of music throughout. \nwww.jearlyn-steele.com\nwww.thesteelesmusic.com

SUMMARY:Peter Himmelman
DESCRIPTION:“One of rock’s most wildly imaginative performers.” – USA Today\n  \nTo a standard-bearer like Peter Himmelman\, writing\, recording\, and releasing new music is an essential part of living. For example\, former Rolling Stone senior editor Parke Puterburgh recently referenced his consistent output in Stereo Review. Himmelman “is on the same plane as Elvis Costello\, Graham Parker\, and Bruce Springsteen and nudging his way to ‘Dylanhood’”. \nHimmelman’s latest\, 2020’s Press On\, captures the immediacy of Himmelman’s new songs. Further\, it leaves his fervent vocals and guitar front and center. There\, the recording process for Press On took just under four days. However\, writing the songs\, refining them\, and deciding which of his more than forty new songs would make the final cut\, began over three years prior.  \nFor Himmelman\, songwriting has long been a process of self-discovery. “There are technical tricks one needs to master. But for me the real work lies in transcending the mechanics of songwriting\, and inhabiting that space beyond the rational mind\,” he says.  \nThe music on Press On is both emotionally and musically varied\, from R&B-flavored piano ballads to incessant New Orleans funk. At times\, Himmelman’s steely Telecaster is reminiscent of two of his principal influences — Howlin’ Wolf and John Lee Hooker. There\, it threads itself through lyrics that seem culled from our current moment. \n“Press On is tellingly titled and deeply considered\, a further example of Himmelman’s ability to go below the surface of any circumstance and find wisdom\, revelation\, and empowerment in the process.” — American Songwriter \nRecommended for fans of Martin Zellar\, Glen Phillips\, Tina Schlieske and John Wesley Harding.

SUMMARY:Happy Birthday\, Pops! with the Southside Aces
DESCRIPTION:Doors will open at 5:30 PM for Dinner and Drink Service.\n\n\nSouthside Aces Celebrate Louis Armstrong\nThis year we celebrate the 125th anniversary of the birth of Louis Armstrong! Join Southside Aces as they pay tribute to their New Orleans roots with a special birthday edition of the Crescent City’s most famous son. During his nearly fifty-year recording career\, Louis charted in the Top Twenty over 50 times. Southside Aces will perform his everlasting hits in this special show\, including songs off their July 16th vinyl release\, The Big Beat. Come celebrate the genius and ebullience of the man who changed music forever. \nTony Balluff: Clarinet \nDan Eikmeier: Trumpet\, Vocals \nEric Johnson: Trombone \nErik Jacobson: Sousaphone \nRobert Bell: Guitar \nDave Michael: Drums \nSouthside Aces are a Twin Cities institution. For twenty-three years they’ve brought to life the early New Orleans of Jelly Roll Morton\, the Chicago joys of Louis Armstrong\, the evocative compositions of the young Duke Ellington\, on up to the barrel house sounds of Preservation Hall and the early rock and roll of Fats Domino. Their belief in the contemporary vitality of New Orleans music led to the 2022 release of their eighth album\, Minneapolis Bump\, adding fifteen originals to the jazz canon. 2026 has seen the release of two more albums: Les Oignons\, the band’s spotlight on the music of Sidney Bechet\, and The Big Beat\, their first on vinyl\, and the album you most want to spin at your next New Orleans party. Treat yourself to a century’s worth of New Orleans Jazz. \n“The performers are virtuosi and flawlessly replicate the sound of classic New Orleans…The concert was wonderful and demonstrates the continued vitality of this sort of music.” John Beckmann—Prairie Uprising\nwww.southsideaces.com
