Dinner and Drinks will be Available for Purchase.\n\n\nWe envision a Cambodia where every returnee is welcomed\, supported\, and empowered to become a self-reliant\, constructive member of society.\nJoin us for an evening benefiting the Khmer Vulnerability Aid Organization. Featuring performances by Lori Dokken\, Doug Anderson\, Narate Keys\, Laichia Vang and Saymoukda Vongsay. \nThe Trump administration’s dismantling of USAID in 2025 cut off a major lifeline for deported Cambodian Americans seeking to rebuild their lives. The Khmer Vulnerability Aid Organization (KVAO) in Phnom Penh\, Cambodia has been working with those deported and their families for over two decades. KVAO assists clients with temporary housing\, legal documentation\, and job placement. With the shuttering of USAID\, KVAO immediately lost 80 percent of its budget. This fundraiser will support KVAO to continue its services as deportations to Cambodia have increased 10-fold since 2025. \nThe Khmer Vulnerability Aid Organization is a non-governmental humanitarian agency that facilitates the reintegration of former refugees admitted to the United States who are now being deported to Cambodia because of past convictions. We provide arrival orientation\, cultural coaching\, informal counseling\, documentation assistance\, job search assistance\, temporary housing\, legal monitoring\, field outreach\, basic medical referrals\, and conflict-resolution/mediation services to help clients become self-reliant\, constructive members of society. \nwww.kvao.org

A fearless improviser and visionary bandleader\, Kenny is known for performances that balance deep respect for the jazz tradition with adventurous\, modern artistic exploration. He is a founding member of acclaimed ensembles including the illicit sextet\, Group 47\, and What Would Monk Do?\, while also leading his own celebrated quartets and quintets featuring many of the Twin Cities’ most sought-after jazz musicians. \nBeyond the bandstand\, Kenny has played a major role in shaping the regional jazz scene as curator of weekly Saturday jazz series at both kj’s hideaway and the historic Black Dog Cafe\, producing more than 400 live Saturday night jazz performances and helping cultivate one of the Midwest’s most vibrant jazz communities. In recognition of his lifelong dedication to the music\, the Jazz Journalists Association named him a “Minnesota Jazz Hero” in 2019. \nAs a recording artist\, Kenny continues to push creative boundaries. His 2020 release Quartets on Shifting Paradigm Records showcased original compositions performed by four distinct ensembles of Twin Cities improvisers. In 2025\, he followed with the acclaimed Blue Chunks\, celebrated with a release performance at Dakota Jazz Club. The project explored Kenny’s innovative concept of assembling smaller musical “chunks” into larger suite-like forms\, further cementing his reputation as a composer unafraid to challenge convention while remaining deeply rooted in the language of jazz. \nThe ensemble assembled for this special tribute to Chuck Mangione draws from the same elite core of first-call musicians Kenny has featured in multiple sold-out performances dedicated to the music of John Coltrane as well as concerts centered on Kenny’s own original works. Their duo is a unique expression of the interplay between strings and percussion – featuring the sonic cornucopia of tabla weaving into the colorful vibrations of guitar – melodies\, grooves\, laughter\, tears\, heart – hear it\, heal it. \nDean Magraw: Guitar \nSuwal Singh: Tabla \nDean Magraw has had a life of music—playing\, composing\, arranging\, producing\, and recording. Magraw’s music is impossible to pigeonhole. For 15 years\, he was half of a duo with Peter Ostroushko (mandolin). He has collaborated with Masahiro Nitta (shamisen)\, Nigel Kennedy (classical violin)\, Nirmala Rajasekar (vina); with singers Bruce Henry\, Ruth MacKenzie\, Claudia Schmidt; and with the Irish supergroup Altan. As a jazz cat\, he has been performing with Chris Bates + Jay Epstein as Red Planet since 2002\, and more recently formed BluLuna. \nSuwal Singh has contributed to the Minnesota music scene as part of SitarTabla (Eastern classical)\, MoMoSauce (Nepali music)\, Yeti Steady (avant-garde soundscapes)\, Jest (pop-rock) and MajMin (world music). It’s an “entertaining and creepy homage to an era gone by” (Cherry and Spoon)\, brought to life by veteran Twin Cities performers Shanan Custer\, Joshua English Scrimshaw\, Tim Uren\, and Eric Webster\, “using their voices to paint a picture so vivid that if you close your eyes\, you can see the action in your mind’s eye” (Stages of Minnesota).  \n4:00 PM – Meet and Greet (with the purchase of the VIP Add-On) A casual opportunity to mingle with the hosts of The Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society. Join Eric\, Tim\, Joshua\, and Shanan for conversation\, memories\, and celebration with fellow fans of mysterious old-time radio. \n5:00 PM – “The Best and Worst of Ten Years” (with the purchase of the VIP Add-On) (Live Podcast Recording) A special live recording looking back on a decade of the podcast. Featuring stories from the Society’s history\, special guests\, and the presentation of awards recognizing the best and worst old-time radio programs discussed during the show’s ten-year run. \n7:00 PM – Live Old-Time Radio Performance The Society presents an evening inspired by Minnesota native Alonzo Deen Cole’s groundbreaking horror radio series The Witch’s Tale! Created in the 1930’s\, the show blended Cole’s imagination and chaotic production style to create iconic stories that have endured for nearly a century. Old Nancy\, the iconic host of The Witch’s Tale\, provided inspiration for the countless horror hosts that would follow.  \nThe evening features a recreation of a vintage episode of The Witch’s Tale\, performed in the style of an old-time radio broadcast with live sound effects\, music\, and period atmosphere. Paired with the historic script is “Alonzo and the Witch” an original radio play by Tim Uren\, imagining the backstage “dramedy” surrounding a Witch’s Tale production as cast and crew scramble to survive the loss of a core cast member and the unpredictable genius of Alonzo Deen Cole as they bring one of his eerie tales to life.  \nThe Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society performed their first staged old-time radio recreation in 2016 at the Bryant-Lake Bowl Theater in Minneapolis. Since then\, they have appeared at the Minnesota Fringe Festival\, Daleko Arts in New Prague\, the Wabasha Street Caves in Saint Paul\, and The Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson\, Wisconsin. Their recreations were also featured monthly from 2017 to 2019 at the James J. Hill Center and from 2020 to 2022 at Park Square Theater in Saint Paul. Currently\, the MORLS can be seen regularly at Crooners Supper Club in Minneapolis. \nThe Society’s live performances are inspired by the podcast of the same name. The Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society Podcast revisits the great crime\, horror and suspense programs from the golden age of radio\, including tales from Suspense\, Lights Out\, Quiet Please\, The Shadow\, and more. Each episode features a classic or maybe-not-so classic story from the mysterious old-time radio vault\, complete with historical notes and trivia.
