SUMMARY:MAGIC TUBER STRINGBAND with Mother Shipton
DESCRIPTION:Magic Tuber Stringband probes the undercurrents of the landscapes around them.\n\n\nThe Cedar Presents \nMAGIC TUBER STRINGBAND with Mother Shipton\nFriday\, July 24\, 2026 / Doors: 7:00 PM / Show: 8:00 PM \nAll Ages \nSeated \nThis is a seated show with general admission\, first-come-first-served seating. The Cedar is happy to reserve seats for patrons who require special seating accommodations. Highly skilled players and writers\, the trio are leaders within the burgeoning avant composition world utilizing folk instrumentation. Their music appears to weave in and out of the fabric of their surroundings\, reflecting their time spent living across the Southeast and studying its regional folk traditions and natural histories. Having performed recently at Big Ears\, Hopscotch\, Sound & Gravity (and many other places along the way) the group’s music resonates well beyond their regional roots. Their newest record\, Heavy Water\, will be out May 22 on the venerable Thrill Jockey Records. The ensemble continues to stretch the parameters of acoustic instrumental expression with masterful flourishes of dense\, textural arrangements\, subtle minimalist gestures and deft improvisation. \nLearn more about Magic Tuber Stringband here. \n\n\n\nMother Shipton is an autumnal chamber duo that alternates between tightly composed\, fugue-like altered folk\, and emergent improvisations that unravel slowly. Made up of Minneapolis-based solo guitar players Matt Beachey & Mark Verdin\, the duo formed just to see what would happen if they played together without any plans\, and they quickly found a common bond between their disparate styles\, whether on guitar\, piano\, or occasionally a woodwind. Their music sleepwalks from quiet stillness into lively waking dreamscapes. \nLearn more about Mother Shipton here.
