Raised on Eminem and the Beatles, my music is full of emotionally charged lyrics with catchy melodies. Chorally trained vocals with a pop-like-attitude gives my sound a unique balance between the two genres. Dave had just been hired as the jazz and percussion professor. Dan is now the director of the School of Music at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and Dave retired from St. Olaf in 2020. Their first album, Horizon, was independently released in 2010 by Cavanagh and Hagedorn. The second release, recorded seven years after the first, showcases the maturity, virtuosity, and patience of this group as they continue to explore the intricacies of their vibraphone/piano collaboration. A typical live show by Dave and Dan – unique compositions and arrangements, unpredictable, and the type of improvisation and uncanny interaction that can only come from two musicians who have known each other for over twenty years, hence the name of their second album from 2017, 20 Years. Each time these two play together there is a tangible and pervasive sense of exploration, creativity, and openness to let the music evolve naturally and unexpectedly. “‘Maybe the best gig I ever heard at the AQ’ was the comment I heard from fans who would know.” Andrea Canter, Jazz Police www.dancavanagh.com

Atlantis Quartet has released five albums to date, Hello Human (Shifting Paradigm Records, 2018) Expansion (SPR, 2013), Lines In the Sand (2011), Animal Progress (2009), and Again, Too Soon (2007). Swing Brunch with Patty and the Buttons $6
Patty and The Buttons preach the gospel of hot rhythm and happy feet. The band is similar to what you would find in a dance hall, cafe or nightclub anywhere around the world between 1920-1940. Despite being an ensemble firmly rooted in tradition, the band presents their music without being shackled to history. They play their own compositions as well as takes on music of the era. Patty’s eclectic taste gives the band diverse influences including New Orleans Traditional Jazz, Western Swing, Gypsy Melodies, Ragtime Piano Blues, Jug Music and 1930′s Popular Song. The core instrumentation of accordion, clarinet, guitar and bass is light and swift, but also melancholic and lush when it needs to be. Patty, mostly known as an accordionist doubles as the bands vocalist. His voice is inspired most by the old time hollers and croons from the dawn of recording once described as “Tom Waits meets Rudy Vallee.” More than anything, The Buttons is a group that is always enjoying themselves… Which seems to give audiences permission to do the same.
