She picked up the guitar while studying creative writing at the Minnesota Arts High School in Minneapolis and started marrying her words to music. Enjoying a four year stint in the Northeast, Small couldn’t resist the pull of her roots, basing herself back in Duluth, Minnesota in December 2003.
