Allen subsequently became Prince’s own personal photographer and shot album covers, record sleeve art, posters, live concerts, backstage and personal photos for Prince as he developed his career up to the rise of Purple Rain. Allen’s iconic images are seen on the covers of “Dirty Mind”, “Controversy”, the inner sleeves of “1999” and several other iconic images including one of Allen’s personal favorites he calls “smoke” that is included here. Allen Beaulieu’s work was published in a comprehensive book titled “Before The Rain” and also had a large gallery exhibit at the Minnesota Historical Society. *Allen will be on-site signing prints/books from noon-2pm! This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Swing Brunch with Patty and the Buttons $6
Swing Brunch with Patty and the Buttons $6
Patty and The Buttons preach the gospel of hot rhythm and happy feet. The band is similar to what you would find in a dance hall, cafe or nightclub anywhere around the world between 1920-1940. Despite being an ensemble firmly rooted in tradition, the band presents their music without being shackled to history. They play their own compositions as well as takes on music of the era. Patty’s eclectic taste gives the band diverse influences including New Orleans Traditional Jazz, Western Swing, Gypsy Melodies, Ragtime Piano Blues, Jug Music and 1930′s Popular Song. The core instrumentation of accordion, clarinet, guitar and bass is light and swift, but also melancholic and lush when it needs to be. Patty, mostly known as an accordionist doubles as the bands vocalist. His voice is inspired most by the old time hollers and croons from the dawn of recording once described as “Tom Waits meets Rudy Vallee.” More than anything, The Buttons is a group that is always enjoying themselves… Which seems to give audiences permission to do the same.

Rhythms in the North ‘‘Fête de la Musique’’ Celebration in Minnesota
Every year, on June 21st, when many cultures around the world are celebrating summer (or winter) solstice, France and many countries make music: people celebrate ''Fête de la musique'', also known in English as International Music Day. It's an annual music celebration to enjoy the longest day of the year. Musicians of every style and ability gather to perform for free in public spaces and parks. Aimed at all audiences, this day of celebration familiarizes people of all ages and all walks of life with a range of musical expressions. This year, Alliance Française, the French Cultural Center in Minneapolis is partnering with Douala Soul Collective to bring this event to the Twin Cities and around the State of Minnesota! We're giving life to this event through venues and spaces with several musicians and bands performing in small and larger places, reunited under ONE BIG MULTI-LOCATION FESTIVAL, called ''Rhythms in the North''. Also, after a long period of lockdown and the uprising following the aftermath of the George Floyd murder, the world, especially our cities, communities and small businesses, are still struggling and going through a healing process. We believe we have a fraction of responsibility to contribute to that Process and this project is gravitating intentionally within that interest.

Arne has performed on nearly 1,500 recording sessions as a singer on jingles and film soundtracks, and recorded and co-produced several albums. For 12 years he produced and hosted Arne Fogel Presents on the stations of the Minnesota Public Radio network, and for over 40 years has entertained radio audiences with his programs on SiriusXM, WWTC-AM, KLBB-AM, KTWN-FM, Netradio.com, and Bing Crosby Internet Radio (Bing’s Basement, The Bing Shift). Currently, Arne appears on KBEM-FM in the Twin Cities. “…I can’t think of anyone else around here who does what Fogel does…There’s a dearth of male jazz vocalists in general, and none in this area who has mastered Fogel’s unique style of pop/swing. It’s accessible, danceable, romantic and fun…” — Pamela Espeland, MINNPOST ArneFogel.com

Lamont Cranston at Crooners
Dinner and cocktail seating and service begins 90 minutes before showtimes. Local Legend Rockers Pat (Lamont) Hayes, with his brother Larry, founded Lamont Cranston in 1969. This Minneapolis-based band has a rich history in the music scene, having recorded 14 albums and written and produced a number of hit songs, including the chart topping “Upper Mississippi Shakedown.” The Cranstons have shared bills with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Muddy Waters, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Charles Brown, Buddy Guy, Keb Mo, Jonny Lang, Little Feat, The Kinks, The Yardbirds, The Animals II, Kansas, Yes, Bonnie Raitt, The Blues Brothers and many more. One of the biggest thrills was opening for The Rolling Stones on a leg of their North American tour in 1981. In 2010, the band was inducted into the Mid-America Music Hall Of Fame. The band has also been featured regularly on Dan Aykroyd’s House Of Blues Radio Show. In fact, Aykroyd (the original Blues Brother!) is quite fond of Cranston, proclaiming, “No one infects venues with the party virus quite like Pat Hayes and The Lamont Cranston Blues Band. They’ve always been my favorite.” “It’s great to hear Lamont Cranston back on the scene. Pat Hayes plays some of the baddest harp and guitar around!” –Bonnie Raitt LamontCranston.com
