Swing Brunch with Patty and the Buttons $6
Swing Brunch with Patty and the Buttons $6
Patty and The Buttons preach the gospel of hot rhythm and happy feet. The band is similar to what you would find in a dance hall, cafe or nightclub anywhere around the world between 1920-1940. Despite being an ensemble firmly rooted in tradition, the band presents their music without being shackled to history. They play their own compositions as well as takes on music of the era. Patty’s eclectic taste gives the band diverse influences including New Orleans Traditional Jazz, Western Swing, Gypsy Melodies, Ragtime Piano Blues, Jug Music and 1930′s Popular Song. The core instrumentation of accordion, clarinet, guitar and bass is light and swift, but also melancholic and lush when it needs to be. Patty, mostly known as an accordionist doubles as the bands vocalist. His voice is inspired most by the old time hollers and croons from the dawn of recording once described as “Tom Waits meets Rudy Vallee.” More than anything, The Buttons is a group that is always enjoying themselves… Which seems to give audiences permission to do the same.

Although they were born over a half-a-century apart, the sentimental sounds of the Judy Garland era seem to be a perfect fit for Grimm’s well-known versatility and ability to bring powerful vocals to the showstopping numbers as well as an intimate tenderness to Garland’s ballads that will leave a lump in your throat. Come Hear the Music, Feel the Joy, and Experience ‘Jennifer Grimm Sings Judy Garland.’ “This is way beyond the rainbow with a stellar cast of area musicians. Fresh Vibes: Piano/Vibraphone Jazz Takes On Crossover Classics
Dinner and drinks service starts 1 hour before showtimes. Piano and Vibes Jazz Duo Creative arrangements of jazz standards and pop tunes with Dan Cavanagh and Dave Hagedorn. Dan Cavanagh, Piano Dave Hagedorn, Vibes Dave Hagedorn and Dan Cavanagh first met in 1997 when Dan arrived as an undergraduate student at St. Olaf College. Dave had just been hired as the jazz and percussion professor. Dan is now the director of the School of Music at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and Dave retired from St. Olaf in 2020. Their first album, Horizon, was independently released in 2010 by Cavanagh and Hagedorn. The second release, recorded seven years after the first, showcases the maturity, virtuosity, and patience of this group as they continue to explore the intricacies of their vibraphone/piano collaboration. A typical live show by Dave and Dan – unique compositions and arrangements, unpredictable, and the type of improvisation and uncanny interaction that can only come from two musicians who have known each other for over twenty years, hence the name of their second album from 2017, 20 Years. Each time these two play together there is a tangible and pervasive sense of exploration, creativity, and openness to let the music evolve naturally and unexpectedly. “‘Maybe the best gig I ever heard at the AQ’ was the comment I heard from fans who would know.” Andrea Canter, Jazz Police www.dancavanagh.com

Reminiscing ’75 – ’79
Dinner and cocktail seating and service begins 1 hour before showtimes. The hits you remember from ’75 – ’79 Whether you “lived the 70s or just love the 70s”, come reminisce with us as we perform your favorite hits the way you remember them! Sing along with us as we play classics from England Dan and John Ford Coley, The Little River Band, Pablo Cruise, and many others. You’ll hear “Baby Come Back”, “Still the One”, “I Go Crazy”, “Lido Shuffle”, “Wildfire”, “Whenever I Call You Friend”, and so much more. We feature three lead singers backed by a stellar Minneapolis band. You can look forward to lots of harmonies, stories behind the songs plus more fun stuff. Scott Pearson, vocals, guitar Lisa Keith Bernard, vocals Casey Flynn, vocals, guitar Bill Chouinard, bass Rich Manik, sax/flute/keysBob Johnston, drums Spencer Bernard, guitar Jim Demgen, keys Out of a love for 70s music, Lisa Keith Bernard and her husband Spencer Bernard created “Reminiscing.” Lisa has had a prominent career as a session vocalist for Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, working with artists like Janet Jackson, Herb Alpert, Human League, and Amy Grant. In 1993, she scored her own top ten hit “Better Than You,” produced by her husband Spencer. Spencer also wrote and produced songs for Janet Jackson, New Edition, David Bowie, and others. After taking a hiatus to raise their family, Lisa and Spencer are back singing with their own bands: “Reminiscing” and the popular tribute band “I Honestly Love You,” playing the songs of Olivia Newton-John and Anne Murray. Reminiscing features Bob Johnston on drums and Jim Demgen on keys, two members of Lisa’s band seen on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Reminiscing also features local favorites Bill Chouinard (bass) and Rich Manik (sax & flute), who perform with many top Twin Cities bands. Bill also plays with Lisa and Spencer in the “I Honestly Love You” band. Rounding out the lineup are two stellar new vocalists to the tribute scene, Scott Pearson and Casey Flynn, who Lisa and Spencer have known for years – Casey through church and Scott since 1st grade, where they harmonized in choirs and other groups. Together, “Reminiscing” plays the hits you remember from the later 70s. We emphasize the “one-hit wonders” that you know and love but maybe haven’t heard in years. We also recall fun stories and memories that made the 70s such a unique decade. This is the music we grew up with and love, and we can’t wait to “reminisce” with you! “Whether you lived the 70’s or just love the 70’s, come reminisce with us!” reminiscingmusic.com

Live Music at Umbra: George Faber
Live Music at Umbra: George Faber
George Faber is a veteran Minneapolis singer/songwriter/performer with a colorful 30-year music career. Born in Champaign, IL, Faber became deeply rooted in the Chicago blues scene. He spent years touring the country performing in blues houses like Kingston Mines and Wise Fools Pub, playing with legends like Muddy Waters and Lowell George. From there, the evolution of styles began; from a controversial glam rock front man performing to rock festival crowds and an early MTV video release – to returning to R&B blues roots and packing rooms from Chicago to New Orleans. His recent recordings have also been highly acclaimed in the audiophile community nationally and internationally. Umbra hosts complimentary live music every single Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. Learn more by visiting our website.
