Maud Hixson: VocalsRick Carlson: Piano Hailed as “gently virtuosic” (All About Jazz), Maud Hixson is a devoted exponent of great songs, ranging from the classic Great American Songbook to the often unsung or forgotten compositions awaiting rediscovery. Based in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Maud made her Guthrie Theater debut in the Noel Coward revue Coward’s Women, also appearing in Park Square Theater’s The Soul of Gershwin. She teamed with Sir Richard Rodney Bennett in 2012 for the long-running Midtown Jazz at Midday concert series at Saint Peter’s and debuted her show Skyscraper Wits in London and New York in 2015. She has made three appearances at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Hall for the New York Cabaret Convention, presented by the Mabel Mercer Foundation. A Live Radio Drama Join The Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society for a double-feature of “Minnesota Made” radio drama, performed in the style of an old-time radio broadcast, including vintage commercials and live sound effects. “Devil Doctor” from The Witch’s Tale (1934): An American inherits an English manor – and a sinister secret! A manic tale of murder and madness from one of radio’s earliest horror anthologies, created, written and directed by Minnesota native, Alonzo Deen Cole. “Minnesota Magnets and Murder” from The Minnesota Goodbye (2023): The 3M company is on the brink of releasing a new type of magnetic tape that will revolutionize the way people record sounds. But when one of the first tapes seems to have captured the sounds of a murder, Detective Raymond Lake is called in to crack the case. Can he solve a case in which he cannot trust what he hears? Since then, they have appeared at the Minnesota Fringe Festival, Daleko Arts in New Prague, and the Wabasha Street Caves in Saint Paul. Their recreations were also featured monthly from 2017 to 2019 at the James J. Hill Center and from 2020 to 2022 at Park Square Theater in Saint Paul.
