An Evening of Classic Vocal Jazz Connie explores the Dave Frishberg Songbook from the witty and swinging (“My Attorney Bernie”, “Peel Me a Grape”) to the senstive and sublime “Listen Here”, “You Are There”). Pianist Jon Weber and bassist Steve Pikal join Connie in playing selections from her CD of Frishberg songs “Little Did I Dream” as well as other Frishberg favorites. Connie Evingson: Vocals Jon Weber: Piano Steve Pikal: Bass Vocalist Connie Evingson is known for exploring a wide variety of musical styles. She has been a featured guest artist with Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion, Jazz at Lincoln Center with Wynton Marsalis, the Minnesota Orchestra conducted by Doc Severinsen, Vocalessence, the JazzMN Orchestra and other esteemed organizations. She is a longtime member of the popular vocal jazz group Moore By Four, and is a two-time recipient of both the McKnight Fellowship for Performing Musicians and the Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant. For 26 years he has been the musical partner of Erin Schwab, the “Bette Midler of the Twin Cites”. Together they create and perform popular shows throughout the area, including Crooner’s Supper Club, LUSH Lounge and Theater, The W – Minneapolis, Birch’s on the Lake, and many other great venues. Jay is the founder and director of Dr. Jay’s Cabaret, which produces a series of fun and inspirational shows at a variety of popular entertainment spots. He has served as music director for the Governor’s Inauguration Ball, the Charlie Awards, the US Foods Awards Ball, the Basilica of Saint Mary Annual Fund Raiser, Children’s MN, and many more. For 27 years Jay was the Music Theory Department Head at McNally Smith College of Music. Doug Anderson is a veteran actor/dancer/performer in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. He has performed at the Guthrie, Chanhassen Dinner Theater, Hey City Theater, Center City Theater, and many others. He has also performed in London at The St. James Theater, Piaño, Crazy Coq’s, The Music Café and The Phoenix Arts Club.

Saxophonist Bob Parsons contributes his classic charts and unique arrangements to the band’s growing eclectic repertoire. This month, the band features music from Gershwin, Berlin, Carmichael and others. Parsons provided in-studio arranging services for Herbie Hancock,Joe Henderson, John Scofield, the Brecker Brothers, and many others.
