Great Hard Bop Jazz The Clifford Brown/Max Roach Quintet was “firing on all cylinders, this is take no prisoners, uncompromised 1950’s hard bop at its best.” Clifford Brown, who brought us jazz standards such as Joy Spring, was often considered the best hard bop trumpet player during his short life. Besides Clifford, his partnering with Grammy winning, Downbeat Magazine hall of fame drummer Max Roach led to several “Best hard bop Jazz recordings of all time.” You’ll be taken back in time with some challenging yet uplifting hard bop selections, including “deep cuts” from this award winning group. Steve Wagner: Trumpet Phil Hey: Drums Adi Yeshaya: Piano Dave Brattain: Sax Graydon Peterson: Bass Steve Wagner had been a mainstay in the jazz music scene since the 1980’s, playing virtually every jazz club and theater in the twin cities area. Phil has appeared in over 125 recordings and has also played for film soundtracks and touring broadway shows.
