Stefan Geisinger Band at KJs
Stefan Geisinger Band at KJs
@ After hearing B.B. King live at the Regal, a then-17 Geisinger picked up a guitar and dug deep into the roots of Blues music. “Something touched me. King’s impassioned voice and guitar playing made me tear up. I still get the same feeling when listening to – or performing – Blues today.” Geisinger, a native of Rice Lake, WI, honed his guitar skills for eight years; at age 23, ready to bring his distinctive style to live audiences, he formed The Stefan Geisinger Band with Buck Barrickman (The Pumps, “Cover To Cover”) and Travis Nocolai (Big Back Yard; Greg Gilbertson, “Surviving The Echoes”). “When performing, I try to entice people to experience the same emotions I am. Playing Blues is the only means I have to share emotions with an audience. Music, to me, can express a happiness so intense that it makes you cry. For me, music is a feeling.” The Stefan Geisinger Band plays recognizable covers from Blues guitar greats such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert King, Jimi Hendrix, and Howling Wolf, as well as original tunes. “I write songs about current situations going on around me – the good and the bad. Whenever I’m experiencing a heightened mood, I pick up my guitar, put pencil to paper, and just let the words flow through me. Writing songs and expressing myself through both my lyrics and my guitar is like a double whammy; I get to share my feelings with the world by combining words with music.” Geisinger’s expressive and skillful – not to mention spirited – performances have drawn rave reviews from audiences. Listeners often remark that there seems to be an old soul inhabiting such a relatively young Blues artist. “When performing, I feel free. All worries slip away as they come out through my guitar. I close my eyes, and I’m transported to a different world. I hope to do that for listeners.” Register on Eventbrite Add to calendar Google Calendar iCalendar Outlook 365 Outlook Live

John Louis ‘CD Release’ with Bad Posture Club, & Jon Rodine at Hook and Ladder
EVENT DETAILS The Hook AND LADDER THEATER Doors 7:00pm :: Music 7:30pm 21+ GA: $12 ADV / $17 DOS COVID-19 Policies EVENT DESCRIPTION John Louis ‘CD Release’ with Bad Posture Club & Jon Rodine —- John Louis‘ latest album “For Everyone (Especially You)” will be officially released January 22, 2024. This album includes two singles that Louis recorded with producer Shane Leonard and released in 2021, and 10 new tracks recorded with co-producer Dex Wolfe in 2023. The story arc of the album is solid. The first few songs paint the picture of a life lived, maybe not so well. The rest of the album pulls us through a journey of decline, despair, resignation, death, and the aftermath. Among the highlights are Roy Orbison-esque version of “I Wish I Remembered You”, “Another Day”, which some say sounds like a mix of Crazy Horse and the Replacements, and “Wake Me Up”, which has a devistativing slow build and instrumental arrangement. The album features the contributions of a strong bench of talented musicians, including Siri Undlin, Hannah Hebl, Jimmy Johnson, Clifton Nesseth, Mark Ettinger, Robbie Weisshaar, Bryan Hanna, Jeremy Boettcher: bass (tracks 2, 4) Ben Lester, Sam Kassirer, Shane Leonard and Dex Wolfe. Bad Posture Club is a Minneapolis-based folk duo made up of Maren Day and Morgan Kavanagh. Their songwriting explores themes of home-places, memory, and family, finding inspiration in the strange relationship between human softness and the unyielding societal structures we both participate in, and push against. When reinterpreting traditional folk songs, they carve out space and agency for queer voices. Purposefully open and sparse, they craft intricate and experimental harmonies with their two voices, banjo, guitar, and sometimes a 100 year old pump organ. Bad Posture Club invites the listener to hear the power in quiet, intimate music, and offers warmth and reflection through song. Jon Rodine is a singer and songwriter based in Minnesota. Drawing on sources like Dan Penn, Doug Sahm, Bob Dylan and beyond, his music is songdriven, a blend of Americana, groove-oriented rock’n’roll and country soul. His latest album “Last Star”–his first collection of original material–has been getting notice around the country. “Eleven songwriting gems” says Mondophonic.com, but “his strongest asset is his voice”. “Authentic, unpretentious…funky, heartbreaking”, said Ellen Stanley, in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Swing Brunch with Patty and the Buttons $5 at Aster
Swing Brunch with Patty and the Buttons $5 at Aster
Patty and The Buttons preach the gospel of hot rhythm and happy feet. The band is similar to what you would find in a dance hall, cafe or nightclub anywhere around the world between 1920-1940. Despite being an ensemble firmly rooted in tradition, the band presents their music without being shackled to history. They play their own compositions as well as takes on music of the era. Patty’s eclectic taste gives the band diverse influences including New Orleans Traditional Jazz, Western Swing, Gypsy Melodies, Ragtime Piano Blues, Jug Music and 1930′s Popular Song. The core instrumentation of accordion, clarinet, guitar and bass is light and swift, but also melancholic and lush when it needs to be. Patty, mostly known as an accordionist doubles as the bands vocalist. His voice is inspired most by the old time hollers and croons from the dawn of recording once described as “Tom Waits meets Rudy Vallee.” More than anything, The Buttons is a group that is always enjoying themselves… Which seems to give audiences permission to do the same.

The High 48’s Bluegrass Brunch $6 at Aster
Since forming in 2006, The High 48s have been making music that combines the soulful sound of classic bluegrass with a modern attitude, original songs and a wide range of influences far beyond Bill Monroe, the Stanley Brothers, and Flatt and Scruggs.
In a genre created and dominated by artists from the South, The High 48s were born and raised in the Upper Midwest. And in a music scene where playing standards is the norm, The High 48s are a band of songwriters who perform their own material in addition to the “festival favorites.”
