Swing Brunch with Patty and the Buttons $5
Swing Brunch with Patty and the Buttons $5
Patty and The Buttons preach the gospel of hot rhythm and happy feet. The band is similar to what you would find in a dance hall, cafe or nightclub anywhere around the world between 1920-1940. Despite being an ensemble firmly rooted in tradition, the band presents their music without being shackled to history. They play their own compositions as well as takes on music of the era. Patty’s eclectic taste gives the band diverse influences including New Orleans Traditional Jazz, Western Swing, Gypsy Melodies, Ragtime Piano Blues, Jug Music and 1930′s Popular Song. The core instrumentation of accordion, clarinet, guitar and bass is light and swift, but also melancholic and lush when it needs to be. Patty, mostly known as an accordionist doubles as the bands vocalist. His voice is inspired most by the old time hollers and croons from the dawn of recording once described as “Tom Waits meets Rudy Vallee.” More than anything, The Buttons is a group that is always enjoying themselves… Which seems to give audiences permission to do the same.

Acoust-I-Dillos 2 – (Acoustic Inspired Hits Over The Decades) at Pioneer Place
During our 22-23 season, this brand-new theme was one of the best-received shows we have EVER done! So, by request… we are bringing it back with many more acoustic-based songs! We aren’t going unplugged, but we are playing songs whose foundation was built from acoustic guitars and acoustic instruments. Songs from groups like America, Gordon Lightfoot, Eagles, James Taylor, Jim Croce, Crosby Stills and Nash, Simon and Garfunkel, and Tom Petty all made this sound popular, but groups like Heart, Kansas, Boston, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, Bon Jovi and Led Zeppelin also had songs that were driven by acoustic guitars. We will take you “all over the map” musically for another round of Acoustic-I-Dillos with Acoustic-I-Dillos 2 – Acoustic Inspired Hits Over The Decades.

Early Show R&R Sunday: Jeff Ray & Dan Schwartz
Sun Apr 14 Dan Schwartz & Jeff Ray, 1pm https://danschwartz.net/ https://jeffraymusic.com/ Dan Schwartz’s recordings have earned him a nomination for guitarists of the year (Minnesota Music Academy) and Folk/Roots album of the year (Mpls. St Paul Magazine). Dan has been featured on several internationally released acoustic guitar compilations including Narada Records Masters of Acoustic Guitar. While Dan does enjoy sharing his music center stage, some of his favorite musical moments have been as a side-man for friends and folk heroes Neal and Leandra, Peter Mayer, and Dan Navarro. His latest release, High Plains Gospel, is a collection of finger-style guitar tunes played on harp guitar and acoustic lap steel. He will be joined by Minnesota resonator slide-guitarist and songwriter Jeff Ray. Ray‘s music is rooted in the traditions of acoustic blues and American primitive fingerstyle guitar while also integrating Indian classical and world music styles under the cryptic guise of alternate guitar tunings. His music recalls early blues and rock, fingerstyle-folk, and Indian Carnatic music – sounding equal parts Ry Cooder, Grateful Dead and RL Burnside. Jeff has shared the stage with Chris Smither, Justin Townes Earl, Indigenous, Spider John Koerner, Earl Greyhound, Black Diamond Heavies, Pat Donohue, Retribution Gospel Choir, Dawes, and Charlie Parr, among others. He has earned recognition as a first-place winner of the Minnesota Blues Society “Road to Memphis” competition and placed second in the Trocadero’s Spotlight Songwriter Competition. JEFF RAY hosts the “Roots & Resophonics” concert series at the White Squirrel Bar on the 2nd Sunday of every month, 1-3pm, featuring a unique duo performance of the most talented local and regional musicians in the American roots genre.

Eli Lev at Pioneer Place
Eli Lev at Pioneer Place
After meeting on Instagram in 2019, the pair connected through music and songwriting by finding a unique blend of acoustic guitar, percussion, and vocal harmonies. Rising singer-songwriter Eli Lev is making the world a smaller place, one song at a time. Eli pens lyrics and melodies for everyday enlightenment—songs that resonate because they’re heartfelt, earthy, and offer the wisdom he’s gained through lifelong travel and self-discovery. The Maryland-based artist has just completed his epic Four Directions project which includes four EPs that were inspired by indigenous traditions he learned while teaching on the Navajo Nation in Northern Arizona. His four-part EP releases, All Roads East (2017) and Way Out West (2018), Deep South (2019), and True North (2021) – imaginatively and intrepidly connect spheres and generations within a body of work that is irresistibly uplifting, emotionally resonant, and down-to-earth. A cross between The Avett Brothers and The Lumineers, Lev has opened for both Shooter Jennings and Lee DeWyze, performed at The Kennedy Center and 9:30 Club in Washington, DC, and toured extensively around the world. Eli Lev has performed in Andorra, Arkansas, Arizona, Australia, California, Canada, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, France, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Israel, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mexico, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, New Zealand, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Spain, Tennessee, Texas, United Kingdom, Virginia, Washington, Washington DC, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming. https://eli-lev.com

Let’s Misbehave: Mistress Ginger Sings Cole Porter at Crooners
Dinner and cocktail seating and service begins 1 hour before showtimes. Let’s Misbehave: Mistress Ginger Sings Cole Porter Campy & Classic Cabaret Cabaret queen Mistress Ginger has unearthed a treasure trove of delicious Cole Porter tunes for your amusement. With Franco Holder on piano, Ginger takes you on a musical journey from a chic penthouse in Manhattan to the Café de Paris. Mistress Ginger VocalsFranco Holder Piano Mistress Ginger is a Juilliard-trained performer based in the Twin Cities. With a passion for storytelling through song, she has brought her cabaret magic to stages across the Twin Cities, from the Bryant-Lake Bowl Theater to the Crooners Supper Club. And she can cook, too! Her cookbook, Mistress Ginger Cooks: Everyday Vegan Food for Everyone, was published in 2014. “Mistress Ginger is a cabaret singer who brings warmth and depth to a lyric, and always lets the song shine through. She moves easily from the steam of a torch song to the campy wink of a double entendre – always while holding up the classic composers and lyricists she loves.” – Michael Whistler of Interact Center for the Arts, for MPR News Art Hounds, 2021 http://mistressgingercooks.com
