EVENT DETAILS The mission room at The Hook and Ladder Theater Doors 8:30pm Music 9:00pm 21+ General Admission: $10 Advance / $15 Day of Show *Does not include fees NO REFUNDS COVID-19 Policies EVENT DESCRIPTION Áit Ait, Superior Siren, & Anothernight Áit Ait (Irish for “strange place” or “uncanny valley”) are an experimental folk duo focused on reinterpretations of traditional songs – dark and deep, bright and sparkling; full of noise and life. Based in Minnesota, Áit Ait (pronounced “ahh-tch eye-tch”) is Aja McCullough (song) and Patrick Maun (sound). The two set out to explore the living tradition that is Irish folk music – ever evolving and always changing, a solid footing set in the past but looking towards the future. S U P E R I O R S I R E N is an eerie folk project from Duluth, Minnesota. The music is inspired by Lake Superior and Siren mythology, and offers an alluring & dangerous expression of vulnerability & desire. Superior Siren continues to perform as a solo or full band act, and is in production of the next full-length album. Anothernight is a Minneapolis-based slowcore experimental folk project channeling both the beauty in and despair in love, loss, and longing. Utilizing minimalism in music and romanticism in lyric, Anothernight explores human emotion from the wild to the mundane, and the willingness to live in either. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Swing Brunch with Patty and the Buttons $5 at Aster
Patty and The Buttons preach the gospel of hot rhythm and happy feet. The band is similar to what you would find in a dance hall, cafe or nightclub anywhere around the world between 1920-1940. Despite being an ensemble firmly rooted in tradition, the band presents their music without being shackled to history. They play their own compositions as well as takes on music of the era. Patty’s eclectic taste gives the band diverse influences including New Orleans Traditional Jazz, Western Swing, Gypsy Melodies, Ragtime Piano Blues, Jug Music and 1930′s Popular Song. The core instrumentation of accordion, clarinet, guitar and bass is light and swift, but also melancholic and lush when it needs to be. Patty, mostly known as an accordionist doubles as the bands vocalist. His voice is inspired most by the old time hollers and croons from the dawn of recording once described as “Tom Waits meets Rudy Vallee.” More than anything, The Buttons is a group that is always enjoying themselves… Which seems to give audiences permission to do the same.

Mike Zito at KJs
CANCELED, VENUE CLOSED INDEFINITELY Mike Zito is one of the most lauded artists in the contemporary blues arena today and rightfully so, but for him, the thing that counts the most is maintaining his honesty, authenticity and integrity. Those are the qualities that have steered Zito’s career since the beginning and continue to define every effort he’s offered since. Mike Zito’s last CD, Quarantine Blues, was recorded during the heart of the coronavirus pandemic and served as a healing love letter to his fans around the world that heralded better days ahead if we’d all just stick together. His album prior to that was a tribute to fellow St. Louis native and rock ‘n’ roll legend, Chuck Berry, and featured an array of guest guitarists ranging from Joe Bonamassa, Walter Trout and Eric Gales, to Robben Ford, Luther Dickinson and Sonny Landreth, as well as Berry’s own grandson. In June 2021, Mike Zito was awarded two Blues Music Awards at The Blues Foundation’s 42nd Blues Music Awards in Memphis, TN. Zito won BMAs in the categories of Blues Rock Artist as well as Blues Rock Album of the Year for Mike Zito and Friends – Rock ‘n’ Roll: A Tribute to Chuck Berry Mike Zito’s album, Resurrection, dropped via Gulf Coast Records and Hillside Global. The new disc was produced by the celebrated Grammy-winner David Z, best known for his long-standing work with Prince, and who has contributed to albums by Etta James, Billy Idol, BoDeans, Buddy Guy and John Mayall, among many others. In a genre created and dominated by artists from the South, The High 48s were born and raised in the Upper Midwest. And in a music scene where playing standards is the norm, The High 48s are a band of songwriters who perform their own material in addition to the “festival favorites.”
